Weekend Fun ~ 07.27.2014

Hello Tuesday! How was your weekend? I was in Waterloo wrapping up more rooms at #ProjectChris and doing one of my absolute favourite thing: decorating! We are finally in that phase of the project where I get to shop for + try out different accessories.  I focused my attention in the bathroom and a couple of vignettes in the living room.  Here is a sneak peek of what happened on the weekend.

I am toying with the idea of adding wall decals from Urban Walls in the bathroom.  Remember these little pine trees? Now that the art pieces are up, I am wondering if the stars would be a better choice.  What do you think?

The weather was a bit unpredictable on the weekend.  The weatherman had forecasted the days to be rainy and cloudy.  It turned out to be a mix of sun and cloud with just a touch of raindrops on Saturday.  So Chris and I decided to go for a walk and that was when we discovered the food truck fair in Waterloo!

Nothing beats a street festival with live music and tasty food.  I love this poutine with schnitzel by Rotstein Fresswagen!  I think they should come to Toronto!  For more information on where Rotstein Fresswagen will be next, check them out on Facebook.

And the weather took a real turn on Sunday late afternoon when we were solidly covered with a HUGE dark thunder cloud.  Chris was determined to BBQ all the food we'd prepared, and neither the lightening or tornado warnings could stop him.  So we put on our raincoats and stood by the BBQ in torrential rain for a good hour.  The reward: a delicious labour of love!

Trying to put the rain behind me and wishing for a brighter and warmer summer got me looking at the new series by Gray MalinBarcelona.  I have been a big fan of his photography and this Barcelona Swimmers shot had me at hello.

Instagram is truly a wonderful spot for inspiration and sources for decoration.  I love this sketch by Jessica of the Aestate!  You may just see it at #ProjectChris real soon!

Just like me, my pal Igor of Happy Interior Blog loves to create (and change up) vignettes at his home in Munich.  I am loving these latest shots!! If you want to see more of his home + his tips on travels, be sure to check Igor out on Facebook

You know what else is super exciting? Sarah has been hinting on instagram she might be in for another round of Sarah's Cottage!!  #fingerscrossed

Weekend Fun ~ 07.13.2014

Hello Monday! How was your weekend? Yours truly has caught a mild stomach bug and wasn't 100% for the last few days.  Nonetheless, I still managed to get a few things wrapped up at #ProjectChris.
  1. vinage faux bamboo stool revitalization with Pop Flower from Kravet and brass nailheads
  2. custom drapes with chic ikat polka dots from Tonic Living
  3. vintage coffee table from Tribute Decor was in and third times a charm (yes I had tried out 3 coffee tables)
  4. DIY barn board island facelift is finally completed (thanks Sarah Richardson and Tommy Smythe for inspirations)

We've also hung most of the artworks over the weekend, and the living room at #ProjectChris is fully done! Now we just need to get the other rooms all dressed up!

I decided to take my stomach for a test on Saturday night as Chris and I met up with a couple of friends for dinner at RedHouse.  Absolutely delicious and I am so heading back for another dinner next weekend!

Chris also brought this video to my attention and I actually rather like their performance.  Enjoy!

Spring / Summer 2014 ~ Hudson's Bay Edition

Hello Wednesday! Are you ready to celebrate another sunny weekend to come?  One of my favourite activities summer is to take a walk in High Park on the weekend. During the week, I love spending time at my balcony, especially after a long day of work.

Whether you live in a condo with a compact balcony or a house with a nice backyard, Hudson’s Bay has got you covered with the most stylish and comfortable outdoor furniture and accessories from Gluckstein Home and Distinctly Home Outdoor.
Brian Gluckstein is known for his luxurious and sophisticated perspective, and his Porto Collection is the perfect example of Brian's exquisite taste. The neutral multi-tone weave adds dimension and visual interest to the clean lined, contemporary modular furniture set. The charcoal outdoor cushions provide the ultimate backdrop to complement any accent colour via decorative pillows and throws. For summer 2014, Brian picked crisp white + sumptuous navy blue to jazz things up.
I am crazy about the canopy and would love to have a pair of chaises. This sleek, stylish lounger from the Biltmore Collection is definitely one of my favourites.

The Biscayne Bay Collection features Brian's signature lattice design. The durable powder coated steel frame built with exceptional quality means minimum maintenance and many years of stylish, comfortable outdoor enjoyment to come. While the solid silver sage + dove grey contrasting piping scream modern sophistication, the classic suzani inspired by the ocean via pillows add instant impact to this classy collection.

From dining to lounging, this extensive collection makes it super easy for you to entertain friends and family in style.

If bright colours are what you are looking for, then you have got to check out Brian's Ibiza Collection.

The mix of soft coral, pastel tangerine, and light lavender is absolutely spot on for summer living. This colour palette has me picturing myself enjoying a delicious orange sorbet while walking through a lavender field! The casual elegance aesthetic on the furniture pieces, the string lights under the umbrella, the multicoloured pillows, and whimsical plate sets, I am saying yes, yes, and YES!

Distinctly Home is another exclusive brand Hudson’s Bay carries, and the outdoor collection this year is all about bold, vibrant hues and tropical fun! From exotic Brazilian Eucalyptus wood and white coated rust-resistant aluminum frame (what Miami fun!!) to the contemporary and masculine Manhattan collection, Hudson’s Bay is truly your "one stop shop" for your dream urban oasis.

The inspiring interior collection at Hudson’s Bay for Spring/Summer 2014 has also arrived and here is a sneak peek of what you will find.

Searching for inspirations to give your home a fresh new look? Here are four hot looks I love. From streamlined, contemporary to refined country charm, Hudson’s Bay has all the essentials from furniture, lighting, rugs, and artwork to help transform your rooms.

Another exciting addition at Hudson’s Bay is the brand new Home floor on 7, at the flagship Toronto location (Queen and Yonge). Wedding season is here and if you are looking for "the shop" to find everything you need from fine china, crystal glasses (... well you know how the list goes), head to Hudson’s Bay Queen Street and start scanning!
The whimsical and bold Marimekko collection is also at the Bay! With so many patterns and colours to choose from, I say: let the fun begin!

If you are looking for fabulous products to revamp your home this spring/summer, be sure to check out Hudson's Bay!

Container Garden 101 ~ Plant Materials

Hello Wednesday! The weather is just absolutely beautiful and I simply couldn't resist the temptation to spend every minute possible outdoor.  If you live in a condo and access to green spaces is limited, why not create your very own urban oasis right at your balcony?

I am over at Style at Home blog today sharing the tips I've learned from the garden expert at the Home Depot garden center.  From a quick lesson on a variety of plant specimens to which ones are suitable given sun exposure, maintenance requirement, I've put together a quick lesson on Container Garden 101: Plant Materials.

Here is a question for you: do you have a container garden?  What is your favourite plant?

Happy Hump Day friends!

Project Balcony ~ WINNERS edition

Hello Wednesday! Wasn't the weekend just absolutely amazing? We have waited 6 long months for the warm sunny rays to arrive and what a perfect way to kick start our garden season on the May long weekend!  I spent a good part of my sunday afternoon checking out the garden center to pick out plants for the balcony.  It was a zoo at the garden centre (guess everyone was planting on the weekend), but what fun!

I will save my balcony makeover with green plants for another time and for today, we are checking out the balcony makeover I did for WINNERS!

WINNERS contacted me about a month ago regarding a makeover project.  We initally were talking about storage ideas, and of course the outdoor obsessed side of me wanted to dress up the balcony to welcome the arrival of  spring/summer.  The project was super fun, but the deadline was extremely tight (two weeks) since the garden season had already arrived at WINNERS and I could only be in Waterloo on weekends.

So I did what I do best: power shop! I must have checked out about 6 WINNERS locations as I drove from Toronto to Waterloo.  The hard work paid off and I managed to find everything I needed for the balcony in 1 day!

image via WINNERS
The core function I am after for the balcony is simple: urban outdoor living to lounge and to entertain.  My five essential must-haves for any balcony makeover are: comfortable seating, chic rug underfoot, stylish pillows for pops of colors, a good size table for drinks / treats, and of course sophisticated planters for container garden!

A little close up on a few of my fabulous finds at WINNERS.  I love how chic these outdoor bistrol chairs look.  Don't they just remind you of a cafe in Paris?  Create you own rug if you can't find one at the right dimension.  I have lined up three rugs here for a dynamic pattern play!  Bright, vibrant pillows add a real shot of colour and the intensity of the hues energize the space.

Here are my favourite close-ups.  What do you think?

Want to see how this space came together?  I have got a fun step-by-step illustration for you!

Happy Hump Day friends!

Spring / Summer 2014 ~ The Home Depot Edition

Hello Wednesday!  Isn't it just gorgeous out the last couple of days?  I am loving all the bright golden rays + light warm breeze, and that puts me right into a spring/summer outdoor living mood.  I attended the Home Depot's spring/summer preview a little while back, and I was in love with many of the items from the 2014 collections.  From stylish luxurious conversation set to well-priced, condo sized sitting arrangement, the the Home Depot has got you covered.

New and exciting to the 2014 spring/summer collection is the Brown Jordan's collection exclusively to the Home Depot: Highland, Marquis, Northshore, and Vineyard, which one is your favourite?

My favourite is the Highland collection.  I love the curved back, flared arms, and the herringbone weave pattern made from weather-resistant resin for a tapered, streamlined, yet relaxed look.  It is also a refreshing contrast to the traditional beige and grey colour palette.  Vibrant, sumptuous tomato red, this is the colour I am craving for this summer!

Don't you just love the oversized paint chips? I wish paint chips come in this size … now that's your inspiration for an art project this summer!  If you have a good size outdoor space and planning to give it a fresh new look, Highland is perfectly scaled for a backyard and it combines beauty, function, and comfort.  Oh and check out the floor tiles: they are made out of recycled tires!  Now this is how we do green design!

If you prefer a cooler palette and square footage is limited (i.e. condo living like me), then you may want to consider Blue Hill.  This classic blue, grey, and white palette looks fresh, crisp, and it reminds me of the ocean.  Summer breeze, clear water, sailboat … I am sold!

A few things I love in this collection: the whimsical beach hut pillow, the large scale floor tiles in a grid pattern, the fire pit doubling as a coffee table, and of course these delicious cookies!

Need to set up the patio for a fabulous outdoor dinner party? Check out Colborne! Contemporary dining table and chairs in espresso + avocado green as accent via umbrella and dinnerware + snappy stripes throw pillows, I say the Home Depot is your perfect one stop shop!

A big thank you to the Home Depot team for all their hard work to showcase the exciting products for this season! Thanks ladies!

Are you all set to enjoy this outdoor living season? I simply can't wait and I am dying to learn all about outdoor living tips and be inspired at the Style at Home's Live Twitter Party today at 12pm + over $1000 in prize giveaways thanks to the Home Depot!  Be sure to join the party!

Weekend Fun ~ New Project + Fresh Blooms + HomeSense Giveaway Winner!

Hello Monday! Did you enjoy your 1st fabulous sunny weekend this spring? The weather was just absolutely gorgeous for both Saturday and Sunday and I wouldn't have it any other way! I spent the entire afternoon at the rooftop garden, soaking up the sun with a cooler in hand, savouring every drop of sunshine on the lounge chaise.

In fact, a relaxed, tranquil outdoor space has become a "must-have" for me when I am looking for a place to call home, especially when living in a condo.  Let's face it, if you are living in a condo, you probably do miss having a garden or some sort of green space.  So when Chris told me a few weeks ago that he would like to purchase another condo unit, a pre-development project (I know ... he just moved into #ProjectChris and we are still finishing the reno/decoration), I was more thinking: are you nuts?

That is until he told me this is actually a new development project by the developer, Momentum Developments, whom we've dealt with for #ProjectChris and this time, we get to work out the design plan (layout, materials, etc.) ahead of time since it will still take a few years to build the place.  You know what popped in my head: another fun project!

images via Momentum Developments
Chris and I  had a very positive experience working with Momentum on #ProjectChris.  We came in to the game late: the unit and finishes were selected and installed. The place was practically move-in ready (or at least Chris thought so).  Naturally I had a few ideas and would like to modify some items including closing up a door, adding pot lights, switching placement for the vanity light, just to name a few.  Momentum was able to accommodate most of my changes and delivered a clean slate for me to decorate.

For this new project (I am calling it #ProjectPreDevelopment), we are in a two-tower complex with views to the city and the park.  Pretty dreamy right?  More units are still available.  If you are looking for a place to call home or a potential investment, check out 100 Victoria!

I've told you having a fabulous garden/outdoor entertaining space is important to me and check out the rendering for this rooftop urban oasis.  I can't wait to see it comes to life.

images via Momentum Developments
We splurged on a two bedroom + two bath unit, and on the top floor to avoid possible obstructions blocking our views to the park.  Chris also would like to have more space in his next home and if it means I get to decorate an extra bedroom and bathroom, SURE!

Here is the floor plan and furniture layout recommended by the architect.

images via Momentum Developments
Of course I have made a few requests to change things up a little for better use of space, and to lay down some important foundations (electrical, plumbing, built-ins) to ensure a smooth decoration project 3 years down the road.  Here is my revised plan:

To make the foyer feels brighter and larger (since it has no access to natural light), I am going for a similar palette Sarah used in Sarah's House 1.  The calm, serene shade of neutral grey works beautifully with the warm white on the trim work.  The ocean inspired natural stone tiles and mid-tone wood floor are what we will have in the foyer, transitioning into the main living space.
images via Sarah Richardson Design
Buying a larger unit also means I get to do a guest bath this time.  I always like to make a statement in powder rooms and here is my inspiration for this second bathroom.  I figure since I am the only regular guest athris' condo, I should have the say of what I want in this space.  Blue and white natural stones in intricate pattern for a spa-like experience.  I also opted for a shower instead of tub (see the original and revised floor plan) since most guests probably will only take a shower and not a bath.  Having a tub in the ensuite makes more sense to me.
I've also asked if we can swapped location for the vanity and the toilet, so you won't be looking at the "throne" the moment you open the beautiful pocket door.

images via Sarah Richardson Design
Lucky me that I've successful sold Chris the idea that I am his regular guest and so I should get carte blanche to decorate all areas associated with the word "guest".  This second bedroom will perform mutli-duties and I am inspired by all these fabulous spaces put together by my favourite designers.

The study by Meredith is just jaw-droppingly incredible.  I have asked Momentum to not include the closet (see original plan), so a sofa bed could go in the nook, while allowing fulll height built-ins to go on the opposite wall.  I am dreaming a fireplace and a concealed TV.

This dining room by Nate had me at hello and I am dying to use this palm leaf wallpaper behind the sofa.  Wall sconces, a round ottoman with greek key detail (thanks Meredith and Staci for the inspiration!), a gold side table, and incredible prints, could you tell I am going all out here? #LOVE!

images via Meredith Heron Design, Nate Berkus Design, Arren Williams, Leila Jeffreys, 219 Shop
We don't have a walk-in closet in the master, so I am determined to make the storage solution as beautiful and functional as possible. Instead of having two single door with a little wall in between (I guess I could put a little writing desk and a mirror against the wall in this layout), I have decided to install two pairs of paneled doors so the closet will look similar to this in Sarah's House 1.

image via Sarah Richardson Design
Trying not to go overboard with my design ideas since the place won't be ready for another 3 years, I have only come up with the floor patterns for the ensuite.  I can finally have my tile carpet!

image via Sarah Richardson Design

Taking a break from #ProjectPreConstruction and #ProjectChris, I enjoyed my first sighting of blossoms this weekend.  Spring is finally here!

Do you know we have a flower market in Toronto? Once a month from May to October, local flower growers and florists gather together for a vibrant and fragant market.  I happened to be in the area and discovered the market on Saturday.  Now I know where to get my flowers for the next few months!

And of course here is the moment you've all been waiting for! We have a winner for the HomeSense giveaway!  The computer has generated a number and YAQ, you are the lucky winner! Please email me for your contact information and I will send you the gift card right the way!

Now I better get back to work! Happy Monday friends!
