East Coast Getaway + My favs

Hello Friday! The weekend is almost here and with yet another fabulously sunny + warm two days ahead, my heart longs for a beachside retreat.  Remember this stylish and refreshing P.E.I cottage owned by Margot and Kevin Austin?  It is indeed exactly where I want to be all summer long (sorry the Centre Island or the Muskoka just got trumped by the Atlantic shoreline).  Today, we get to visit this artfully curated getaway one more time thanks to the July Issue of Style at Home magazine.

Don't you just love how cozy and airy the cottage looks with wainscoting, the eclectic mix of fine antiques, modern classics from IKEA, and thrifting treasures, and with all surfaces (walls, ceiling, and floor) freshly painted?  Such a perfect backdrop for a navy + white nautical palette.  I also love the whimsical lobster fabric.  Fun isn't it? It is preppy meets modern: the exact design sensibility this talented couple is after.

What is your favourite color to accentuate the sophisticated coastal color scheme? I picked pink & mint for Project Balcony and hits of emerald green at my very own city oasis.  At this cottage full of maritime charm, Margot and Kevin picked cheerful canary yellow to make the rooms pop.  From the yellow raincoat at the foyer to the painted faux bamboo headboard + striped bed skirt in the master bedroom, I am crazy about the injection of this happy hue throughout the house!

Not one square inch hasn't been fully utilized.  The sloped ceiling landing area at the second floor also doubles as a restful, seaside retreat for overnight guests.  For those of you who have been challenged by awkward spots in your own home, this is definitely an idea you want to steal.  I have seen a few of those during Chris' house hunting in Waterloo last weekend, so big thank you to the design couple for the inspiration!

Speaking about inspiration, I am also floored by the sensational tablescape styled by the talented (not to mention gorgeous) Cassandra Lavalle of coco + kelley to reflect her recent trip to Cape Town, South Africa.  She was mesmerized by the juxtaposition between traditional African design elements and Western European influence + the strong beach culture.  Back on America soil, Cassandra threw a fabulous dinner to share her trip with friends and don't you all wish you were invited?  From colorful beading napkin rings, turned wood silverware, beautiful textiles on the table linens/ table clothes, to the use of Proteas (national flower of South Africa) in the centre piece, no detail is too little for Cassandra.

Can we also take a moment to appreciate the stunning architectural details of the room?  Elaborated coffered ceiling, magnificent arched windows, textile sisal floor covering, this venue is perfect for this "Cape'd in Culture" dinner party! Thanks Cassandra for the beautiful treats and I absolutely love the dress & accessories you picked for the occasion.  Breathtaking!

For inspirations closer to home, I adore the bathroom makeover by Vanessa of d├ęcor happy.  The transformation is huge and I just love the wall panels, the glass shower enclosure, the stone mosaic cubby hole in the shower, and the use of artwork in the bathroom.  I love the sense of airiness and the classic, timeless sensibility of the space.  Her choice of bright coral pink as accent has brought this spa-like neutral space to life.  Bravo!
